Rashad Brooks scored 14 points and Louisville held Marquette to one field goal in the final 7:42 of a 75-65 win Thursday night.

Marques Maybin scored 12 points, Muhammed Lasege added a career-high 12, and Reece Gaines and Erik Brown added 11 each for Louisville (9-14, 5-5 Conference USA), which beat Marquette for the fourth time in the last five meetings.

Women's Basketball Survives Overtime Scare By Marquette

University of Louisville women's basketball team defeated the Golden Eagles of Marquette 79-74 tonight in overtime at Freedom Hall. The Cardinals improve to 16-7 overall and 11-1 in Conference USA. Louisville also extended their home win record to 12-0 at home.

Marquette stunned Louisville with a 9-0 run to start the game. Louisville fought back and pull to within one late in the first half but Marquette kept the Cards down. Louisville took the lead for the first time with a three point jump shoot by Marju Sober with 0:45 remaining in the first half.

U of L's African-American college was unique during segregation

During the 20 years before U of L opened its Belknap Campus classrooms to African-American students, it operated Louisville Municipal College, a separate school for African Americans within the university that had much the same standing as the School of Medicine or the College of Arts and Sciences.

That one fact makes a tremendous difference in the university's history and its place within the context of the segregated 1930s and 1940s.

Chinese, Brazilian performers set tone for Jazz Week

A diverse lineup featuring performers from around the world will highlight Jazz Week 2001.

The eighth annual week-long celebration will be Feb. 18-24. Most concerts will be on Belknap Campus.

This year's festival will include performances by a Chinese pianist and a Brazilian jazz group, as well as concerts by internationally acclaimed performers from Louisville and around the United States.
